Established in December 2012, Hyundai Motorsport GmbH is responsible for Hyundai’s global motorsport activities, headlined by its World Rally Championship (WRC) programme. On their arrival to the series in 2014 they made an immediate impact, claiming a 1-2 finish in Germany in a memorable year and have since established themselves as one of the leading teams in world rallying. As of the start of the 2018 campaign Hyundai Motorsport has finished as runner-up in the Manufacturers’ championship on two occasions. After debuting with the i20 WRC, the team now competes with the i20 Coupe WRC, an all-new car designed to the latest set of WRC regulations introduced for the 2017 season.
Alongside the success of the WRC squad the team’s headquarters in Alzenau, Germany is also home to the company’s Customer Racing department. From its origins in late 2015 the department now builds both the i20 R5 rally car and the i30 N TCR, the first Hyundai Motorsport-built car designed for circuit racing. Customer teams now race with Hyundai cars around the world, in high-profile championships including, WRC2, the European Rally Championship and the FIA World Touring Car Cup.
HMSG cars are fitted with Sabelt seats, harness and steering wheels.
